Prepay

This is the logo for Washington Electric's Prepay program. It features three orange arrows placed next to each other horizontally, followed by the word prepay in green letters.

Prepay Program: A Smarter Way to Pay for Power

Take control of your electric service with Washington Electric Cooperative’s Prepay Program — a flexible, pay-as-you-go option designed to fit your lifestyle and budget.

What Is Prepay?

Prepay metering allows residential members to pay for electricity in advance instead of receiving a monthly bill. You purchase power when it's convenient for you — whether that’s weekly, biweekly, or as needed. As you use electricity, your account balance decreases. You’ll be notified when it’s time to add more funds, giving you more control and fewer surprises.

Benefits of Prepay

  • No deposits required

  • No monthly bills or late fees

  • Real-time usage monitoring

  • Easy payments through our website, SmartHub app, by phone, or in person

  • Start with as little as $50

With Prepay, you’ll be able to manage your energy use, track spending, and avoid unexpected bills — all while staying connected.

Who Can Enroll?

The Prepay Program is available to qualifying residential members. To be eligible, you must:

  • Have 200-amp or smaller electric service

  • Not be an active-duty military member

  • Not be elderly (age 65 or older) or handicapped

  • Have no one in your household who depends on life-support medical equipment

  • Be the primary account holder (not a landlord paying for tenants)

  • Be able to manage regular payments to maintain service

Not sure if you qualify? Contact our office and we’ll be happy to walk you through it.

Getting Started

  1. Apply: Complete a short agreement form.

  2. Start With $50: Make an initial purchase of $50 or more in prepaid electricity.

  3. Track & Pay: Monitor your balance and make payments at your convenience.

  4. Stay Connected: Keep your account funded to avoid service disconnection.

If you’re converting from a traditional billing account, any existing deposit or credit will be applied to your Prepay balance.

Important to Know

  • A daily service charge still applies, based on our residential rate schedule.

  • If your balance reaches $0 or below, your service may be disconnected.

  • Refunds will be issued for any remaining credit after final billing upon disconnection.
